This intermediate-level webinar provides an overview of profiles of adaptive behavior in autism spectrum disorder and highlights the importance of these everyday skills in optimizing self-sufficiency throughout life. Dr Saulnier will discuss the types of adaptive deficits commonly found in autistic individuals, their association with co-occurring cognitive challenges such as intellectual disability and executive functioning impairments, and the implications of these for managing the activities of daily life. The importance of addressing adaptive functioning in diagnostic evaluations and treatment/intervention programs is highlighted.

2. Explain the contribution of adaptive behavior skills to a person’s ability to live independently, irrespective of cognitive and/or language proficiency
